Ok, so I got my V4 working (just needed fresh tubes), and it sounds awesome, considering it has been sitting in a basement for 30 years (not even much hum or hiss!!). The only thing is, it sounds incredibly boomy. THere is a ton of bass, which is sweet, but there doesn't seem to be any high-end shimmer or anything. Would new caps help maybe? I'm comparing it to my 78 Marshall JMP 100 watt, which (through the same cabinet) sounds much tighter and crunchier. Does the v4 just have out of control low end or is there anything I can do to balance it out better? Would stuffing my cab with insulation or anything help get rid of some of those booming resonances? I might just need better speakers (whatever Celestions marshall was throwing in their 1960 cabs around the year 1979 is what I have right now, they sound great with the marshall but might not be right for the ampeg). Anyways, just looking for ideas.
